Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas, has become a popular dental tool for young children. This mild sedative is a colorless, odorless gas that helps patients relax and stay calm without going to sleep. 

Parents feel comfortable with nitrous oxide because it doesn’t require an IV or injection. Instead, it’s easily administered with oxygen through a face mask. As soon as a child inhales nitrous oxide, it slows the body’s reaction time and minimizes responses to pain and fear. This helps young children separate from their anxiety and coast through dental treatments with a smile.

You can receive nitrous oxide in our office. This means your child can stay in our clinic and doesn't have to go to a hospital where their anxiety could heighten.

Get More Treatment Done in Less Visits

For children with difficulty at the dentist and for those with special needs, we sometimes break up appointments when they need more than one treatment done. This can make seeing the dentist more manageable and less stressful. However, under sedation, we can often get all treatment done in one visit.

Most dental procedures in children are completed local anaesthesia ; however, veryyoung, fearful or un cooperative children may require sedation that insulates your child from the stress and discomfort associated with dental procedures.
